Superman Animation Task
Tuesday 20th September 2022
What was the task?
The task was to create a short little animation using Adobe After Effects of a Superman logo with a Superman background. We had all sorts of things we could have done with the logo, for example rotate it or change its opacity. Once finished we exported / rendered the video and uploaded it to YouTube.
What did I learn from this task?
- Adobe After Effects basics
- How to scale
- How to position
- How to render / export AE files
How can I apply this to my work?
I can use this in my own work as most of my How-To Video editing will likely be done on Adobe After Effects so knowing the basics is very important for this project.
The Finished Product:
How could I improve?
When using Adobe After Effects, I realised that you can't move any files while using the software - I learnt this the hard way. As I was creating my animation, I moved the images I was using from documents to desktop, this then meant that the software was unable to find the files and therefore deleted the files within the animation.
Intro Sequence Tutorial
Monday 26th September 2022
What was the task?
Using the software Adobe After Effects, we had to construct an intro in order to learn how to do it ourselves for our own tutorial video later on in the course.
What did I learn from this task?
- How to add text in AE
- How to add shadow
- How to change the background colour
How can I apply this to my work?
I can use this for my own work as I can add captions and title sequences to my How-To Video be make it a clear and easy to follow demonstration.
The Finished Product:
How could I improve?
I believe my work looked very professional, which was a personal goal I set when completing this piece of work however it looked quite simple - that's what I would improve on. I would try to find a way to present my work as both professional while making it a bit more complex.
Faking Shots Task
Monday 26th September 2022
What was the task?
Using Adobe software () we had to create the illusion that we were using certain types of shot movements when recording. We did this by editing the video to make it move in particular ways.
What did I learn from this task?
- How to fake types of shots
- How to download free videos
How can I apply this to my own work?
I can use this for my own work as in my How-To Video I can pretend to demonstrate a range of camera movements without actually doing this with a camera. The free video downloads will help me with my work as it allows a cute little free intro for me to create.
The Finished Product:
How could I improve?
The second clip I used was quite poor quality when I scaled it so if I was to improve, I would choose a better quality video to use for my second fake shot.
Sound Recording Task
Tuesday 27th September 2022
What was the task?
Using a sound recorder and a microphone, we had to interview one another with a set of questions. One thing I believe we did well for this task is that we paused the recording instead of stopping it when we were breaking character - this is a good thing as it means we don’t have to edit the clips of audio together to get our finished audio.
What did I learn from this task?
- Sound recorder basics
- How to use Adobe Audition
- How to review audio
How can I apply this to my own work?
I can use this for my work as it enables me to be able to record a voiceover for my video and have the ability to review any other audio I might need for the project e.g., background music.
The Finished Product:

How can I improve?
I think we could improve by choosing a different area to record in. Most of the good recording soaces had been taken so we were left with a very busy hallway where you can hear all the background chatter.
Classification Guidance Task
Thursday 29th September 2022

The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) have the task of deciding what maturity best suits the film from these ages.
- U = Universal (suitable for all)
- PG = Parental Guidance
- 12A = 12 with an adult
- 12 = 12 and above
- 15 = 15 and above
- 18 = 18 and above
- R18 = Restricted 18
What was the task?
For the task we were given a DVD (West Side Story (1961)) with a classification, and we had to explain why we agree or disagree with the maturity rating based on our own research.
What did I learn from this task?
- Types of research
- Meanings of the age ratings
- The process of keeping age ratings up to date
How can I apply this to my own work?
I can use this for my work as I am able to use the different types of research to better research my How-To Video topic.
The Finished Research:
(Source - IMDB Parents Guide)
How could I improve?
If I was to do the task again, I think I would explore a range of websites, reviews and clios rather than just jumping straight to one website that has it all. I would look a little deeper into it rather that just have the answers given to me by the professionals.
"I want it that way"
B99 Editing Task
Tuesday 18th October 2022
What was the task?
The task was to recreate the iconic B99 scene and then editing it to synchronise sound, change the volume and reducing reverb along with background noise.
What did I learn from this task?
- Synchronising sound
- Linking and unlinking
How can I apply this to my work?
I can apply this to my work as it helps with my post-production skills when it comes to editing my How-To video and synchronising my video and voiceover.

Our recreation:
How can I improve?
To improve, I could import more clips and audios to make the video complete rather than just the single shot of video.
How-To Trial Run
Thursday 20th October 2022
What was the task?
The task was to apply all we have learnt so far and create a mock How-To video on a specific topic - none of which were the topics the real video was going to be on. We were in small groups and our group were given the instructions to create the video on Inserting/ejecting an SD card into a PC along with formatting it afterwards. Our group were given two topics due to having an extra person compared to everybody else.
How can I apply this to my own work?
Due to this task being a draft as such, I see it as something that will be very helpful when it comes to making my How-To video as it helped me to see how the video will come together and plan it out.

How can I improve?
I can improve by finishing the project. Our group, due to our bigger task, didn't get round to finishing the project completely so that is how I would improve - finish filming and edit the clips together to construct the finished video.
