POST-PRODUCTION

What is Post-Production?

Post-Production is the editing / final touches added to a project after it's finished being filmed. The word production refers to the making of the project and the word post means afterwards - not post as in mail! The main three things I focused on when editing was: transitions, filters & using the software most suitable for my post-preduction aims.

The Editing Process

Transitions:

For the transitions, I tried to keep it simple and used a push up motion. This tied in with my theme of vintage innocence as it reminded me of old film.

Other types of transitions:

  • Dissolve
  • Black
  • White
  • Wipe (left, right, up, down)
  • Slide (left, right, up, down)
  • Push (left, right, up, down)

Polaroid Frames:

Trying to keep with my theme of vintage innocence, I added a polaroid frame around my photos when editing them. I believe this to be a nice touch as it adds a quirk to the video, makes it stand out. I also believe that adding polaroid frames around each example photo helps to convey my editing skills. Although they look nice, the frames weren’t simply for decoration but were also for convenience; I was able to write out each shot type on the bottom which helps to make it clear what angle each photo is shot using.

Software:

For post-production, I used a range of editing applications including:

PICSART - Although not a professional application, I used PicsArt to add some final touches to my photos including the polaroid frames. I also used this application to write out each photo’s explantation onto a blank canvas so I could easily add it as an overlay.

ADOBE PREMIERE RUSH - I used Premiere Rush for the basic stitching together of my video, this is because it was quick and easy to use and was only for the baseline of my video.

ADOBE PREMIERE PRO - For the more detailed editing and effects, I used Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro is a lot more advanced compared to Premiere Rush, this is why I used it for the details however advanced often comes with complexity which is certainly the case for PP, this is why I didn’t edit the entirety of the video on PP.
